What to do and where to go with children on May Day 2022 in Helsinki and the surrounding area?
May Day, the celebration of spring, workers, and students, is celebrated on Sunday, May 1st, 2022. Spring events and May Day traditions can be experienced as early as May Day Eve, Saturday, April 30th, 2022. Pienten Helsinki's list of May Day events and tips for celebrating May Day with children in Helsinki and the surrounding area. After two exceptional May Days, there are now many traditional ways to celebrate the spring festival again.

MLL Ruoholahti-Jätkäsaari May Day Fun at Ruoholahti playground on Monday, April 25th, 2022, 4:30-6:30 PM.
Albertin Lounge's May Day party (Albertinkatu 33) on Friday, April 29th, 2022, 9:30 AM-3 PM.
Pihlajamäki May Day festivities on Friday, April 29th, 2022, 2-6 PM at Pihlajamäki Youth Center.

Viiki MLL's May Day Fun at Viikki playground, 10 AM-12 PM. Free admission.
Spring Sensation at Puistola Corner (Nurkkatie 2) on May Day Eve, April 30th, 2022, 10 AM-2 PM. Free admission.
Children's Saturday - Children's Theatre Festival on May Day Eve, April 30th, 2022, starting at 10:30 AM at Laajasalo VPK (Yliskylänkaari 10). Tickets €2.
May Day event at Säätytalon Park (Ritarikatu 9) in Kruunuhaka on May Day Eve, April 30th, 2022, 11 AM-2 PM. Free admission. The event is organized by Vironniemi Daycare Support Association.
Children's Saturday: May Day party at Viiki Library on Saturday, April 30th, 2022, 11 AM-3 PM.
MLL Myllypuro MAY DAY at Myllynsiiveti playground on May Day Eve, April 30th, 2022, 1-4 PM. Free admission.
Espoo: Children's May Day: Craft Buffet in the Sellosaali warm-up hall on May Day Eve, April 30th, 2022, 2-5 PM. Free admission.
Espoo: Vappunen! Festival at Children's Cultural Centre Aurora on May Day Eve, April 30th, 2022, 2-6 PM.
Tickets €10, under 2 years free.
Havis Amanda statue gets crowned at Market Square on Saturday, May Day Eve, April 30th, 2022, at 6 PM. Statue cleaning begins at 5 PM. This year's crowning is performed by the University of Helsinki Students' Union. Expect crowds!
Celebrate remotely: Havis Amanda's crowning and other May Day atmosphere can be followed via Yle Areena on May Day Eve, April 30th, 2022, starting at 5:45 PM.
Linnanmäki Amusement Park opens on April 29th, 2022.
May Day events on May 1st, 2022
Traditional May Day greeting on May 1st, 2022 at Ullanlinnanmäki starting at 9 AM led by Students' Songs Singers. The event can also be followed on Yle Areena.
Vantaa: MLL Aviapoliksen Children's Traditional May Day Event at Illenpuisto Park on May Day, May 1st, 2022, 10 AM-1 PM. Illenpuisto is famous from the Risto Räppääjä movie!
May Day Fair on May Day, May 1st, 2022 at Kumpula Botanical Garden (Jyrängöntie 2), 10 AM-5 PM. Tickets €4 (children) and €2 (adults), lap infants free.

Let's have a picnic! Kaivopuisto is a classic May Day picnic spot, but this year you could try another Helsinki park: Meilahti Rose Garden, Herttoniemi or Stansviken Manor Park, Tullisaari in Laajasalo, Mustikkamaa, Seurasaari or Lauttasaari rocky beaches are excellent alternatives.
For nature picnics, you can head to places like Uutela, Kruunuvuorenlamma, Kivinokkaa, Lammassaari or Kuusiluoto.
On the Espoo side, for example Villa Elfvik's nature, Marketanpuisto with picnic tables, and Träskanda Manor Park are wonderful places.
