Pikku Kakkonen's mail, mailbox 347, 33101 Tampere 10!
Update: Pikku Kakkonen's anniversary exhibition at Annantalo has ended. The exhibition travels around Finland and in September it can be seen at Turku Adventure Park. The song comes to mind for many and inevitably brings back memories from childhood. People remember it so well from their own childhood or their children's childhood that the mail would certainly get through.[caption id=“attachment_891” align=“aligncenter” width=“1334”]
At Pikku Kakkonen’s anniversary exhibition.[/caption]
Pikku Kakkonen is turning 40 this year and invites everyone to celebrate at its anniversary exhibition. The exhibition is a look at P2’s history and present day, and because of the historical significance, it’s worth exploring for both small and older children. Nostalgic memories will certainly surface when you see, for example, a young Eeva-Leena Pokela or Ransu the dog. Read more about the exhibition’s tour here.

On August 1st, Pikku Kakkonen’s anniversary exhibition opened at Annantalo in downtown Helsinki. The exhibition is on display on the first floor of the building until the end of August (2017). We visited the exhibition while passing by with a three-and-a-half-year-old and a crawling baby. Both had fun, and so did mom. The anniversary exhibition is a feel-good event where everyone finds something they like to do or look at. The three-and-a-half-year-old built puzzles and balanced on a board, the baby focused on catching (and eating) fish and crawling around the cardboard huts in the exhibition space. The exhibition is on a child’s scale and very versatile: here you can try things, perform stunts, touch and explore. Remember to also draw a congratulations card for Pikku Kakkonen and drop it in the mailbox with greetings.

Fishing, performing stunts, building, performing… All of this is available at Annantalo throughout August.[/caption]
In my opinion, the exhibition suits everyone from babies to grandparents and you can pass time well there. In the foyer, you can also watch the best parts of Pikku Kakkonen over the years. You can get to know the exhibition through games or by looking and wondering at your own pace. The exhibition guides are happy to help and guide.

Babies enjoy themselves at the anniversary exhibition too.[/caption]
In the backyard of Annantalo there is a covered stroller parking area. A small space for strollers can also be found on the first floor, but note that each building entrance has stairs. An accessible lift can be found at the second entrance, but it requires the help of the building caretaker. Wheelchair users will receive assistance from the building caretaker. A changing room is on the first floor next to the accessible toilet. Annantalo’s café is unfortunately still on summer break, but the café space is available for a moment’s rest. The exhibition is accessed without outdoor footwear, so strollers cannot enter the exhibition space itself. From the perspective of small children, this is of course a good thing, as crawling is fun for getting to know the exhibition.

Pikku Kakkonen’s anniversary exhibition is part of Finland 100 celebrations and the Great Reading Adventure project, coordinated by the Institute for Children’s Literature and the Reading Center.
The anniversary exhibition is on display at Annantalo throughout August during building hours. Admission to the exhibition is free. More information about Annantalo can be found at www.annantalo.fi
Also remember Annantalo's front and back courtyards, where you can pop in for a nap or swing in a hammock, as well as the book café inside (opens September 4, 2017).
