Pienten Helsinki's From Christmas to Epiphany article offers diverse ideas and tips mainly for independent activities in Helsinki between Christmas and New Year. That is, what to do and where to go with children in Helsinki and the surrounding area during Christmas and New Year.
This article replaces the regular weekly "Where to Go This Week" roundups for the Christmas and New Year period due to the small number of actual events.

For example, Fazer's Christmas window on Kluuvikatu has also often been a treat!

Adventure in Helsinki
- What should we do today? Check out tips for boring days from Pienten Helsinki!
- Secrets of Helsinki article reveals little and big secrets about Helsinki!
- Uunisaari off Kaivopuisto has gotten a bridge connection for the winter months and on the rocky island you can gaze at the horizon and wonder at passing ships and the sea spray on the shore.
- For independent winter hikes you should head out, for example, along the wooden boardwalks to Lammassaari, to Suomenlinna Fortress, to Kruunuvuorenlammen peace (now mostly with ready-made, updated boardwalks!) or to Kivinokka trails. More tips for Helsinki adventures can be found in Pienten Helsinki's Helsinki places article.
Hike in the Surrounding Area
- You can hike even in winter! Sipoonkorpi, Nuuksio, Luukki, and Talosaari are wonderful hiking spots in winter as well. Pack a snack and dress warmly!
- Sipoonkorpi has easy-access trails such as Tasakallio - Storträsk route and the Byabäcken nature trail, formerly known as the Ponu Post tradition route, which leads to a grilling spot and a cabin for warming up. Tip based on experience: with small children, it's best to walk the Byabäcken route from the beginning to the grilling spot and return the same way, rather than doing the full loop. The grilling spot usually has plenty of firewood available, so bring matches and food. Note, however, that some routes may be slippery due to varying winter weather.
- Also worth trying is the route from Kuusijärvi to Sipoonkorpi and experience a beautiful bridge route to the national park.
- New and interesting hiking spots can also be found among Uusimaa Recreation Area Association's sites.
Christmas Towns in the Surrounding Area
- At least Porvoo, Loviisa, Tammisaari (and Tammisaari's lovely Elf Path), Fiskars Village (and a great playground in the village center!) in Raasepori, and Mathildedal have focused on Christmas atmosphere.
