Activity tips for children
What child-friendly activities are available in Helsinki? Where to go with small children on the weekend? What to do on a rainy day? Pienten Helsinki's weekly series seeks activity tips and recommends child-friendly places in Helsinki and the surrounding area. The website's target audience is pre-school children and families with children.
Where to go this week -article continues with a slightly modified concept. The article lists the highlights of the week's events and the most interesting activity tips of the week. It also includes highlights from Pienten Helsinki's new articles, news, and a new weekly changing "Have you ever visited" place. The future of the page is still open, but this concept will continue through spring.
Activity tips for exhibitions and more link suggestions can be found at the end of the article!
New in Pienten Helsinki: Spring children's equipment flea markets, list of upcoming spring events, and Going to the theatre with children articles have been updated!
Are you following Pienten Helsinki on Facebook? The page has lots of current event tips, discussions, and other highlights related to family life in Helsinki. Facebook also has its own group for baby families in the city, Baby Helsinki.
Pienten Helsinki can also be found on Instagram with the hashtag #pientenhelsinki, where you'll find many pictures of Helsinki with children.
NEW: Families' Helsinki group on Facebook is a place for discussion about Helsinki for families with children: daycare spots, hobbies, getting around, everyday tips and ideas. Things that families encounter in everyday life. The group is a place to celebrate but also to raise awareness of issues in family matters. The group is also a place to share news and announcements related to family life. You can join the group here.
This week's "Have you ever visited" place is Haltiala farm on the border between Helsinki and Vantaa. Haltiala is a farm owned by the City of Helsinki that is practically always open. In March, you can see cows grazing outside, sheep spending the winter months indoors, and small lambs can be seen in the barn again around Easter. In summer, Haltiala's farmyard enclosures are also home to pigs, chickens, and geese. Haltiala is also a paradise for small machine enthusiasts: you can see tractors and other farm machinery up close in the yard. Haltiala's playground is small but very diverse farm-themed outdoor play area. The farm also has a charming café called Wanha Pehtoori. There are many nice outdoor recreation areas nearby, including Niskala arboretum. The article's cover image shows Haltiala farm in March 2019.

Pienten Helsinki as an app on your phone!
Pienten Helsinki now works as a PWA app. You can install Pienten Helsinki on your Android or iPhone simply by opening the page in Chrome or Safari browser and selecting from the share button Add to home screen. A PWA app differs from a traditional app in that you don't need to install it separately from the App Store or equivalent. In practice, the content is exactly the same as in the browser, but theoretically loads faster.
Pienten Helsinki does not require registration to work now, and never will.
