Helsinki Day and Helsinki's 469th birthday are celebrated again on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 around the city. Various events will be organized during the day and there's plenty for children to do to suit all tastes. Small Helsinki collected event tips and highlights suitable for pre-school children and those traveling with small children from the abundance of Helsinki Day events. The tips are listed in chronological order.

Classics, activities, farm animals and sights - Helsinki Day 2019
Helsinki Day opening and traditional morning coffee in the renovated city hall lobby from 9-11 a.m. Coffee and rhubarb pie as well as the official Helsinki Day opening, you can dance to the beat of DJ Local Al. Opportunity to visit the city hall balconies from 9.30-12 and meet city leadership.
City Museum's Helsinki Day does not have a special program for children this year, but the museum and Children's City open for the summer season at 9 a.m.

Helsinki Day at rescue stations
On Helsinki Day all of Helsinki's rescue stations are open to the public from 10-18. Also at the fire museum located at the Erottaja rescue station, you have the opportunity to learn about the capital's history from the perspective of rescue services and first aid, and admire the city from the 42-meter-high rescue station tower.

Welcome by metro to Korkeasaari from 10-18. First, follow the animal tracks from the RED metro station through Englantilaisaukio square. There you'll meet REDI guides who will lead you from Englantilaisaukio across the Isoisänssilta bridge to the Korkeasaari gates. The first 1500 visitors will receive a Korkeasaari entrance ticket from REDI guides at the Korkeasaari gates, which you can use to continue your day on the island of animals.

In honor of Helsinki Day, rhubarb pie is served with playground meals. The lunch soup is clear broth fish soup made with char (M, G, N, S, K). Helsinki offers all children and young people under 16 a free lunch at playgrounds on weekdays until the beginning of August. You need to bring your own plate, utensils and drink.
